It’s Chinese New Year today! I got the inspiration from this event and decided to use the Lucky Bamboo pour celebrate it. I heard that Chinese people spruce up their room with this plant as it is considered to bring good luck.

I also used the Ranunculus for creating the festive atmosphere with the image of Chinese lanterns and fireworks for the New Year.

In the meanwhile, the event of Setsubun is coming soon in Japan! Setsubun literally means “division of seasons”, and the most important one falls on February 3 since it’s the division of winter and spring. In other words, that date is beginning of spring, moreover, beginning of new life.

On that day, people decorate a holly branch with a head of grilled sardine outside their front door and throw roasted soybeans outside their houses while yelling “Oni wa soto, Fuku wa uchi!” It means “get out demons and evil spirits, come in happiness!”

That’s why I used the Eryngium for the arrangement this time. I wanted to express the feature of Holly and demon’s spear with the spiny leaves of Eryngium.

By the way, Japanese people eat rolled sushi for Setsubun for praying for a wish to come true.

Why don’t you have it at Le Sushi-bar on Feb 3 this year?
